Will Hales, above, of Hales Farms in Wicomico County is among the Maryland farmers growing and selling Mar-Delicious watermelons this summer. A group of farmers who are members of the Mar-Del Watermelon Association created the Mar-Delicious brand last year to help area consumers find watermelons grown in Maryland and Delaware. The Jane Lawton Farm-to-School Program promotes the sale of nutritious, locally grown farm goods to our schools, strengthens ties between school systems and farmers, and educates students about where their food comes from. The program is being developed by the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the Maryland State Board of Education. Kickoff Week: Sept. 22nd to Sept. 26th. Learn more on this exciting new program.
